So, just like BuzzFeed, we\u2019ve compiled some easy-to-read lists for you.<\/p>\n<p>My colleague Alison Bailin at PRGN\u2019s Phoenix agency, <a href=\"https:\/\/prgn.cullencommunications.ie\/es_es\/agency\/hma-public-relations-phoenix-pr-agency\/\">HMA Public Relations<\/a>, offers the following 10 reasons for \u201cwhy\u201d below:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why you should hire a public relations agency:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1. You want to <strong>increase your presence<\/strong> \u2013 be it among the media, influencers, online, in social space, among target audiences or otherwise.<br \/>\n2. You want to <strong>tell your story<\/strong> \u2013 or develop new consumer interest.<br \/>\n3. You are doing something <strong>impactful in your industry<\/strong>.<br \/>\n4. You are doing something <strong>impactful in your community<\/strong>.<br \/>\n5. You want to be considered an <strong>expert and thought leader in your industry<\/strong>.<br \/>\n6. You want to <strong>build relationships<\/strong>.<br \/>\n7. You want to <strong>build trust<\/strong>.<br \/>\n8. You want to <strong>generate investor interest<\/strong>.<br \/>\n9. You want <strong>help solving problems<\/strong>.<br \/>\n10. You have a <strong>budget in place<\/strong> for marketing communications and clear communications goals.<\/p>\n<p>Finding the perfect <strong>PR and marketing communications agency<\/strong> is a bit like dating: you might have to kiss a few frogs to find your soul mate. To bypass the frogs, here\u2019s a 5-step guaranteed process compiled by yours truly that will help you identify the right agency for your PR needs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How to find the RIGHT PR firm:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Think clearly about your goals, scope of work and budget<\/strong><br \/>\nBefore you begin, this is the most important step. If you can\u2019t define success upfront, you\u2019ll never find the right partner. And don\u2019t just say, \u201cGet me into the Wall Street Journal.\u201d Professional PR firms want to know \u201chow should we target our efforts to help your business grow?\u201d Most important of all, know and <a href=\"https:\/\/prgn.cullencommunications.ie\/es_es\/tips-trends\/revealing-pr-budget\/\">articulate your budget<\/a> or you won\u2019t be able to identify the correct PR partner.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Do your research<\/strong><br \/>\nTo do your research these days, it\u2019s not so hard. Do a Google search for \u201c<strong>best public relations firms<\/strong>\u201d in your City and you\u2019ll come up with a list (those agencies that don\u2019t do a good job promoting themselves probably aren\u2019t going to do a great job of promoting your business, either). Take the time to visit each website to determine if they have the relevant experience, <a href=\"https:\/\/prgn.cullencommunications.ie\/es_es\/public-relations\/a-case-study-for-a-case-study\/\">case studies<\/a>, results and customer testimonials for your needs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Ask yourself: Is this firm the right size for your business?<\/strong><br \/>\nJust like Goldilocks, some PR firms are too big; some are too small; and some are just right for your needs. At LCI, we like to educate prospects that there are three types of agencies: multi-national firms that have multiple offices worldwide (and budget minimums that reflect those resources); mid-sized agencies, likes ours, that have many of the capabilities of the \u201cbig guys\u201d but with less overhead; and freelancers, who generally are the least expensive, but most often are best suited for a local campaign. Once you\u2019ve figured out your needs and your budget, you\u2019ll be able to determine which of these three options is best for your business.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Get to know the agency before you meet them<\/strong><br \/>\nThe best way is first to send an email identifying your interest; then have an initial call to see if they understand your business and your vision; and finally, ask them to put a proposal in writing. But proposals are only as good as the information that prospects give agencies: the better your \u201crequest for proposal\u201d (or RFP), the better suited the agency responses will be. And, don\u2019t send your RFP to more than a half dozen agencies. Many of us in the PR business won\u2019t even respond to that because it\u2019s an open call and less likely to result in business. A better way is to vet the agencies before you ask them to respond in writing: that way, you\u2019ll get better proposals and the agencies will put their best foot forward.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5. Most of all: do you like them?<\/strong><br \/>\nWe always recommend that prospects visit us in person \u2013 not just to meet the team firsthand (you can\u2019t believe it, but some people hire folks these days without meeting them face-to-face) \u2013 but to assess the offices, the workplace culture and the gut level \u201cfeeling\u201d about the agency and its personnel. Have the agency present their ideas in person so you can hear them fully fleshed out. Then, ask specifically who will be working on your team and ask to meet them. In the end, you will be working with your PR pros closely, so you want to make sure that you like them as people, not just as professionals.<\/p>\n<p>Following these steps will help you find that perfect agency and \u2013 more likely than not \u2013 result in a longstanding partnership that will benefit both parties for many years to come.<\/p>\n<p>What are your thoughts for why and how to find the best PR agency for your needs?
